NESYA doesn’t just make music; she catalogs survival at the intersection of religious trauma, bipolar disorder, and high-speed chaos. Born in Nebraska and raised as a preacher’s daughter, she spent her youth hiding a goth heart she wasn't allowed to show while surviving trials of sexual abuse, infidelity and social isolation. After moving to Sacramento at age 12, the alternative and darkwave scenes finally offered a mirror to the "baby bat" within. NESYA’s music follows a trajectory from heartbreak to detachment to total empowerment. She is filling a void in the industry as one of the few Black alternative artists seamlessly blending post-punk aesthetics with house and R&B sensibilities.
